Business ownership
I spent 12 years running an international e-commerce business.
Running a business changes how you evaluate technology. It has to justify the investment, fit the resources available, and help the business operate effectively.

Helping small service businesses punch above their weight.
Better processes. Smarter technology. Stronger businesses.
I'm a Wollongong-based business technology consultant helping owners of small service businesses get more from their people, processes, and technology.
I start by understanding what your business needs to achieve, then work out the right solution - whether that's improving an existing process, connecting systems, building an application, or introducing AI.
My approach is backed by 25 years of business ownership, product development, and technology leadership.

Helping small businesses do big things with technology
I started illawarra.ai because I believe small businesses should be able to do big things through the smart use of technology.
I've spent 25 years working across business ownership, technology, and product development. I've experienced the challenges of running a small business and seen what becomes possible when the right technology is applied to the right problem.
What makes this such an exciting time is artificial intelligence.
I believe AI will fundamentally change how we live and work, creating opportunities for small businesses that would have been difficult to imagine just a few years ago. Capabilities that once required significant resources, specialist expertise, or large teams are becoming increasingly accessible.
But opportunity doesn't automatically translate into results. With so many new tools, competing claims, and rapid developments, knowing where to invest your time and money isn't straightforward.
That's why I created illawarra.ai - to help business owners understand what's possible, make informed decisions, and put technology to work in practical ways.
Sometimes that means AI. Sometimes it's improving a process, connecting existing systems, or building something simple that solves a persistent problem.
The goal is always the same: helping smaller businesses achieve more than their size might suggest.

Technology should make a business work better, not introduce unnecessary complexity.
Much of what happens in a business needs to be dependable and predictable. When a process can be simplified, automated, or improved using conventional technology, that's often the right place to start.
AI opens up valuable new possibilities, particularly for work that requires interpreting information, generating content, or dealing with situations that aren't easily reduced to fixed rules.
But those capabilities also introduce uncertainty and risks that need to be understood.
My approach is to establish reliable foundations first, then use AI where its benefits justify the added complexity.
Every business is different, but the principles behind good technology decisions remain remarkably consistent.
Start with what the business needs to achieve, then understand the work, people, and systems involved.
Making an unnecessary task faster isn't necessarily progress. Sometimes the best improvement is to remove the task altogether.
Simplify processes, make existing systems work together, and use dependable technology wherever possible.
A solution needs to work in the day-to-day operation of a business, not just look impressive in a demonstration.
Consider the value, cost, limitations, and risks before introducing AI.
Start with manageable experiments, apply appropriate safeguards and measure whether the change delivers a meaningful improvement.
When you work with illawarra.ai, you work directly with me. From understanding the problem through to deciding what should happen next, I'll be personally involved.
I aim to make technology decisions straightforward, transparent, and grounded in what matters to your business.
You'll deal with me throughout the engagement, rather than being handed between salespeople, consultants, and delivery teams.
I'll explain the options, trade-offs, and recommendations clearly, without unnecessary technical jargon.
I'll consider whether a solution is worth the time, money, and effort involved - not simply whether it's technically possible.
Sometimes AI is the right solution. Sometimes a simpler technology or a change in process will deliver more value.
My job isn't to sell you more technology. It's to help you make better decisions about the technology your business needs.

I help small service businesses become more productive and profitable by improving how they work and putting the right technology to work for them.
I start with business outcomes, simplify and redesign processes, then connect existing tools, build practical solutions, and apply AI where it genuinely adds value.
My approach comes from experience on both sides of business technology - running a business, leading technology and product work, and building solutions myself.

Running a business changes how you evaluate technology. It has to justify the investment, fit the resources available, and help the business operate effectively.
My career has included leading technology and product teams and working on substantial technology initiatives, including SaaS product leadership and work connecting AI tools to real business data.
That experience informs how I approach complex problems, balance competing requirements, and turn ideas into working systems.
I continue to work directly with technology, including AI assistants, software applications, and integrations.
I believe it's important to understand what these technologies can do in practice, where they fall short, and what it takes to make them reliable enough for real use.
Whether you're trying to work out where technology could help or already have a problem you want solved, we can start with what matters to your business.
Not sure where AI or other technology could make a difference?
I can help you understand your existing processes, explore opportunities, assess what's practical, and decide where to focus your investment.
The aim is to identify sensible priorities, not produce a long list of technology you don't need.

I can help design and implement practical solutions, whether that means improving a workflow, connecting systems, developing an application, or introducing AI into an existing process.
The focus remains on solving the business problem and ensuring the solution is fit for purpose.
